Creating space for our community, regenerating our built heritage. The Incorporation of Hammermen received its Seal of Cause in 1681, and is the last guild of its type which still adheres to its original membership criteria, i.e. men and women who have completed or are undertaking an apprenticeship in a nominated trade. The organisation is currently undertaking a project to convert a semi derelict building into a flexible, accessible, multi-use space in order to facilitate the maximum amount of community engagement achievable within its limited size. One of the key objectives is to provide exhibition space and resource media in order to display the ancient ceremonial objects owned by the craft and to provide an interpretation centre to explore the origin and history of ancient trade guilds.
